Can't install: "There was a problem checking the system for installed items".


When starting the installer, I get the message "There was a problem updating dependency items from the Web Platform Installer products catalog. Some dependencies might not currently be available in the Web Platform Installer feed". Then, it fails to detect the programs that I've already installed, and clicking refresh gives me the error "There was a problem checking the system for installed items" and I cannot proceed with the installation.

I have the same problem. I tried a lot of things, but I am out of ideas. Anybody already an idea how to solve this?

I have the same problem with the "Windows Azure Toolkit for Windows 8".

Are you running this in Windows 8 RELEASE PREVIEW? That appears to be the issue.

The dependency checker cannot get past this stage. Due to the requirement of passed variables in the setup scripts (presumably from the Dependency Checker) there is no simple way to bypass the dependency checker and invoke the scripts manually.

the problem is related with the web platform installer: the depency checker works with platform installer version 3 not 4: uninstalling version 4 and installing version 3 the issue is resolved.
